Website Terms

When you visit the company’s website, staging.vaka.is, cookies are used to distinguish you from other users on the company’s website. Cookies are small text files that your browser saves on your computer if it is configured to accept the use of cookies. The cookies enable Vaka to remember certain settings from you in order to improve the user experience and obtain statistical information about the use of the website.

I. Cookies

If you leave a comment on the page, you can choose to save your name, email address and website in so-called cookies. This is for your convenience so you don’t have to type this information again when you leave other comments on the site. These cookies are saved and stored for 12 months.
If you have access and log in to the site, a temporary cookie is set up to check if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal information and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, some cookies are also installed to save your login information and screen menus. Such login cookies last for 48 hours and display cookies last for 12 months. If you select “Remember me”, the login will be active for two weeks. When you log out of the account, the login cookies are removed.
If you publish or edit an article, an additional cookie is saved in the browser. That cookie contains no personal information but only the ID of the article you edited and expires after 24 hours.

II. Comments

When you leave a comment on the page, Vaka collects and stores the data entered in the comment form. The same applies to IP address and browser type information for the purpose of assisting in the analysis of spam transmissions.
After your comment is approved, your profile picture is publicly visible next to the comment. A non-personally identifiable string generated from your email address (also called a hash) is sent to the Gravatar service for the purpose of checking whether you use their service. The privacy policy of the Gravatar service can be found here: https://automattic.com/privacy/ .

III. Records

You are always responsible for images and other files you submit to the company’s website. When sharing data in this way, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) as visitors to the site can then download the location data from the images to them. The same applies to other files, to check that metadata associated with files is deleted or removed.

IV. A message

If you send a message through the page’s message and mail forms, Vaka collects and stores the data entered there. The same applies to the sender’s IP address and browser type information for the purpose of assisting in the analysis of spam transmissions.

V. Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may contain embedded content from other websites (eg videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves the same as if you were visiting that particular site.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, insert additional third-party tracking and monitor your interactions with the posted content if you have access and are logged in to those websites, such as YouTube, Google, Facebook and Instagram.

VI. With whom the data is shared

For the sake of uniform presentation of fonts in the text of the page, fonts from Google are used. When you open a page on Vaka’s website, your browser brings the necessary web fonts into the cache in order to display the text and fonts correctly. In order for this to be possible, your browser must establish a direct connection to Google’s servers and thus Google will be aware that the website has been viewed with your IP address. The use of Google fonts is done for the sake of a consistent and attractive appearance on the company’s pages. If your browser does not support Google fonts, the standard font of your computer is used. More information on Google’s handling of user data can be found at https://developers.google.com/fonts/faq and in Google’s privacy policy at https://www.google.com/policies/privacy/ .

VII. Where is data sent?

In addition to what is stated above, user-written comments are occasionally sent to automated spam filters for approval and analysis.

VIII. How long is the data stored?

If you leave a comment, it, as well as its metadata, including information about the author, is saved for the lifetime of the page or until that information is deleted manually. This is done so that later posted comments from you can be recognized and automatically approved instead of being queued for manual approval by a system administrator.
For those users who register in the user area of Vaka’s website, personal information provided by the user in the user profile, such as name and email address, is stored. All users can at any time see, change or delete their personal information (except they cannot change their username). Site administrators can also see and change this information, except for the password, which is only visible to the user in question. However, a system administrator can change a user’s password.

IX. What rights do you have over the data?

If you have a user account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive a record of personal information stored about you, including any information you have provided on the site. You can also request that all personally identifiable data stored about you on the site be deleted. However, this does not include information that the company is required to keep, as required by law or regulations.

X. Your Acceptance of These Terms

By using this site, you acknowledge and agree to these terms. If you disagree with the above terms, do not use the site staging.vaka.is or register as a user of the site.
